Podiatry

Podiatry Clinic Services

Our podiatry clinic in Austral can help patients of varying ages, from children to adults, with managing and treating their feet conditions. From treatments for fungal infections and ingrown toenails, to nail surgery performed by a specialist, we have a range of solutions to put your mind at ease.

Orthotic Inserts

A popular option is our custom-made orthotic inserts. Depending on your condition, our team utilises a range of 3D scanning, 3D milling, plaster casting and handmade options to ensure every inch of your custom made orthotic inserts moulds to your feet perfectly. If you are a private health fund member, you may be able to make a claim on your custom-made orthotic inserts.

You may also choose a non-custom made, ready to wear option which is available off the shelf in our private practice or from our online store.

Our orthotic insert range is designed to suit a variety of people and needs including those with low profile shoes, and children who need in-toed or out-toed walking correction with gait plates.

Biomechanics

We address common biomechanic issues that affect orthotic health. These include gait problems, ulcers, knee pain, heel pain, bunions and flat feet. We commonly advise a walk assessment so that we can observe your habits first-hand and advise a personalised treatment plan.

Common aged care biomechanic issues that we treat include ulcerations, ingrown toe nails, corns, calluses, cracked heels, fungal infections or wounds. And, in contrast, sometimes it may be as simple as maintaining nail-cutting to encourage healthy nail growth and to stave off bacterial infections.

Specialist Nail Surgery – Advanced Ingrown Toenail Treatment

For cases of chronic ingrown toenails that aren’t resolving, we resort to a minor surgical treatment called Partial Nail Avulsion (PNA). This specialised nail surgery involves removing the problematic part of the nail plate permanently, by removing one edge of the nail. Local anaesthetic is administered, and there are no stitches involved. Following PNA, the healing process is usually complete in just 3-6 weeks, with most people returning to work or normal activity the day after surgery. Seeing a nail surgery specialist could be the first step to resuming normal comfort after painful ingrown toenail problems. Contact us about this now.

High Risk Conditions

In extreme cases, we will assess very advanced cases of infections and ulcerations, or perform other assessments for conditions such as diabetes that can have an effect on your podiatry needs and wellbeing. Contact our private practice if you are concerned about diabetes-related podiatry.
